Description - Irma Grese, nicknamed 'The Beautiful Beast', standing in the courtyard of the Prisoner of War cage at Celle. She was one of the few women to be called to account for her crimes and is pictured here with Josef Kramer, commandant of Auschwitz and later Belsen concentration camps.
Irma Ida Ilse Grese (October 7, 1923 - December 13, 1945) was an SS guard at the Nazi concentration camps of Ravensbrück and Auschwitz, and served as warden of the women's section of Bergen-Belsen. She was hanged at age 22.
