George Azterodt, who was hanged in 1865 for his role in the Lincoln conspiracy plot.  Atzerodt, along with John Wilkes Booth, David Herold and Lewis Powell (Payne), were to carry out the planned assassinations of President Abraham Lincoln, Vice President Andrew Johnson, and Secretary of State William Seward on the night of April 14, 1865.  Atzerodt was to assassinate Vice-President Andrew Johnson, but ultimately lost his nerve.  Only Booth was successful.
