Title -  Confederate General William Young

 

Description -  Confederate General William Hugh Young (1838 - 1901).  Born in Missouri, his family moved to Texas while he was an infant. In 1861, he joined a Texas unit that would become part of the 9th Texas Infantry.  He would be elected captain, and promoted colonel after the battle of Shiloh.  He fought at Perryville, Murfreesboro, in the Vicksburg campaign, and Kennesaw Mountain. He was made brigadier general August 15, 1864.  He was severely wounded in the attack on the Federal Fort at Allatoona, Georgia, and was imprisoned at Johnson’s Island, Ohio, until July 24, 1865.
