Description -  The Wilmer McLean house in Appomattox, Virginia.  It was in this house that Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered his Army of Northern Virginia to Union General Ulysses S. Grant, commander of the Army of the Potomac on April 9, 1865, effectively ending the Civil War.  Image shows the McLean family on porch.
